Prof Thang Huy Nguyen is Senior Stroke Consultant and Director of the Stroke Centre at The People’s 115, Hospital, HCM city. He is chair of the Department of Neurology at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, HCM city.
He is vice president of the VietNam Stroke Association, president of the HCM city Stroke Association, and a member of the Asian Stroke Advisor Board Committee and the Scientific Committee of the Asia-Pacific Stroke Congress.
Studies for which he has been the national leading principal investigator include DIAS 3, DIAS 4, SOCRATES and THALES. He was national leading principle investigator and steering committee member for ENCHATED, AFFINITY, INTERACT 3, DIRECT SAFE and STOP MSU
His numerous publications include Processes of stroke unit care and outcomes at discharge in Vietnam: findings from the REgistry of Stroke care Quality (RES-Q) in a major public hospital. (Journal of Stroke Medicine 2019); Safety and efficacy of fluoxetine on functional outcome after acute stroke (AFFINITY): a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. (The Lancet 2020) and Endovascular thrombectomy versus standard bridging thrombolytic with endovascular thrombectomy within 4·5 h of stroke onset: an open-label, blinded-endpoint, randomised non-inferiority trial. (The Lancet 2022)
Prof Huy Nguyen received the WSO Angels Spirit of Excellence Award in 2021.
