Annie Kariuki

Quénia

Science enthusiast Annie studied microbiology and biotechnology at the University of Nairobi, Kenya. She has since pursued her passion for research in the medical and food microbiology fields in a variety of roles, from medical research laboratories focused on HIV sample analysis to microbial quality analysis in the food and beverage industry.

During the Covid pandemic, Annie wanted to be part of the solution. She gained full certification as an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and worked on the frontline, both providing emergency care to patients in the ambulance, and helping patients reach urgent care as an emergency medical dispatcher.

From this experience was born a need to continue helping patients and their families. Annie joined the Angels Initiative and looks forward to improving healthcare systems and making lives better for Kenyans. Her primary focus is ensuring Kenya has more stroke-ready hospitals to make a difference in outcomes for stroke patients.
